Even though this feature has been available across seas since 2011, Netflix Inc and Facebook Inc partnered together to enable social integration between your Facebook and Netflix accounts in the US. Netflix owners who enable these features will see two new rows on their Netflix homepage. The additional features will allow users to see friends recent “activities” on Netflix such as “Friends Favorites” and “Watched by your Friends”. Users will also be able to share and comment on content and send it to Facebook. Haven’t you always wanted to ask your friend why he watches “The Notebook” five times a week? Now you can : ). Netflix believes social is going to be everything, Hastings said to Bloomberg ”Our kids are way more social than us; their kids will be way more social than them. You tell your friends about what you watch and they’ll watch much more of what we offer.”
A challenge at Netflix was giving users new content to view and helping them find content throughout their site. Why should users pay a monthly fee if they viewed all the content that interests them? Netflix hopes viewers will discover new content with this the Facebook feature and keep their queue fresh and exciting. Whether or not you want friends to see content you watch is another issue, luckily you don’t have to sync your Facebook account to Netflix. The Facebook update will be available today and should be available to all Netflix users by the end of the week!
